The author states: "Truth is both what we intellectually grasp and what we practice". Knowing something is not quite the same as practicing, IMO. Knowing something with the head or intellectually and following through are two different things. "Oh, there is a man drowning! Someone help! He is right there just beyond my reach." One looks around for someone to help and forgets there is a rope at their feet and it's attached to a life buoy; or perhaps the pool net is right there hanging on the wall. You know the man will most certainly will drown but unless you do your part, it's like holding his head down.

What did you think of the Lesson Study this week? Personally I thought it had some trouble. Great topic. But the author did seem to struggle. I think he was trying to appease both sides of Adventism. However .... I did appreciate Tuesday's Lesson on Salvation especially this part: The means of salvation is Christ's blood (1 John 1:7; 5"6.8); that is His atoning sacrifice (1 John 2:2,4:10). The Cross is not mentioned in 1 John directly. However,, blood and atoning sacrifice point to the Cross. It is not the example of Jesus that saves us, as important as that is. It is His death. And yet, His example calls us to walk as He did (1 John 2:6) This clearly explains the Gospel. What think you? The term "atoning sacrifice" is very VERY interestig in 1John 2:2 NIV. I usually despise all things NIV -- but here is a case where NIV actually gets something RIGHT that almost every other translation gets wrong! The word often translated "propitiation" - is wrongly translated to mean "appeasement" as if Christ "appeased the angry God so that we might be spared". But that is not the Bible Gospel. Rather in the Gospel we have atonement which in the NT is "God so LOVED that HE GAVE His only begotten Son". An entirely different concept from "Christ so sufferred that God decided not to wipe us out". in Christ, Bob

...still stuck with the thought that Truth remains the Truth whether we practice it or not. Ah, does the tree that grows in the forest come crashing down, just because there is no ear to hear it? To know good and not do it, is evil.

Don't you mean,"If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" But I don't believe it has a lot to do with objective truth. I agree with Redwood. Truth remains the same. But I have a different definition of truth by comparison to a lot of people. I believe monogamy is a cultural thing, but music isn't. IOW whether or not a man has more than one wife is only a rule of culture, but church music should never lend itself to dancing.
