I heard a radio program on the origin of Christmas songs about 2 weeks ago. One of the songs was God rest ye merry gentlemen. It was apparently written in the 15 or 16th century and the meaning of words was not the same as today. Here's what was said about that song; The word "rest" meant "keep" and the word "merry" meant "strong". So in those days it would mean "God keep you strong gentlemen"
Guess what instantly popped into my mind? God "rested" the 7th day. The King James was written around that time and would translate to mean God "kept" the 7th day!!! Today we say we keep the Sabbath, which really means we keep the Sabbath holy. So when God "rested"' He really kept the 1st Sabbath Holy.
That is reassuring and inspiring.
