Club Adventist
Welcome with open arms fellow believers who don’t see things the way you do.
And don’t jump all over them every time they do or say something you don’t agree with
– even when it seems that they are strong on opinions but weak in the faith department.
Remember, they have their own history to deal with. Treat them gently. Romans 14.1: The Message

How does a person show meekness if he/she is a Christian?

Matthew 5:5 KJ21 “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”
Meekness – “a disposition to be patient and long suffering, the feeling of patient submissive humbleness” www.onelook.com

Sunday – Meek and Lowly in Heart
Matthew 11:29 NKJV “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”
Matthew 11:29 PEOPLE’S NT COMMENTARY He has first asked us to come, and made a gracious promise. He next shows us how to come. We are to come by taking his yoke upon us. Taking on the yoke is a symbol of submission. The two steps by which we come, and secure the promise of "rest unto our souls" are then (1) Submission to Christ, (2) Becoming his disciples.
Romans 12:3 BBE “But I say to every one of you, through the grace given to me, not to have an over-high opinion of himself, but to have wise thoughts, as God has given to every one a measure of faith

Ephesians 4:2 BBE “With all gentle and quiet behaviour, taking whatever comes, putting up with one another in love;”

Monday – Models of Meekness
Abraham – Genesis 13:8-9 God’s Word to the Nations “8 Abram said to Lot, "Please, let’s not have any more quarrels between us or between our herders. After all, we’re relatives. 9 Isn’t all this land yours also? Let’s separate. If you go to the left, I’ll go to the right, and if you go to the right, I’ll go to the left."”
Joseph – Genesis 50:20 NIV “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” [to his brothers]
Genesis 50:20 COMMENTARY FAMILY BIBLE NOTES God meant it unto good; that he should be greatly exalted, and be the means of saving his father, his brethren, and multitudes of others from death, and of illustrating to all future generations the wonderful providence of a wonder-working God. The object of God in suffering men to commit wickedness is very different from their object in committing it. Whenever they intentionally do wrong, their object is evil, and they are evil. His design in suffering it to be committed is good, and he is good.
David – 1 Samuel 24:3-7 NRSV “3 He came to the sheepfolds beside the road, where there was a cave; and Saul went in to relieve himself. Now David and his men were sitting in the innermost parts of the cave. 4 The men of David said to him, "Here is the day of which the LORD said to you, ‘I will give your enemy into your hand, and you shall do to him as it seems good to you.’" Then David went and stealthily cut off a corner of Saul’s cloak. 5 Afterward David was stricken to the heart because he had cut off a corner of Saul’s cloak. 6 He said to his men, "The LORD forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, the Lord’s anointed, to raise my hand against him; for he is the Lord’s anointed." 7 So David scolded his men severely and did not permit them to attack Saul. Then Saul got up and left the cave, and went on his way.”
Moses – Numbers 12:3 ASV “Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men that were upon the face of the earth.”
Numbers 12:3 SDA BIBLE COMMENTARY Only a meek man knows how to be submissive to God and to his subordinates and at the same time be a courageous and dynamic leader. There is no place in the work of the Lord for a leader who conceives it to be his privilege to domineer over his fellow workers and dictate to them.
Exodus 32:19-20 ASV “19 And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing: and Moses’ anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount. 20 And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it with fire, and ground it to powder, and strewed it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.”
Jesus – John 18:21-23 Holman “21 Why do you question Me? Question those who heard what I told them. Look, they know what I said.” 22 When He had said these things, one of the temple police standing by slapped Jesus, saying, “Is this the way you answer the high priest?” 23 “If I have spoken wrongly,” Jesus answered him, “give evidence about the wrong; but if rightly, why do you hit Me?””
Matthew 26:39 NIV “Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."”

Tuesday – The Importance of Meekness
Zephaniah 2:3 NRSV “Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land, who do his commands; seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you may be hidden on the day of the Lord’s wrath.”
James 1:21 NLT “So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.”
1 Peter 3:15 God’s Word to the Nations “But dedicate your lives to Christ as Lord. Always be ready to defend your confidence in God when anyone asks you to explain it. However, make your defense with gentleness and respect.”
1 Peter 3:15 COMMENTARY BY ADAM CLARKE Do not permit your readiness to answer, nor the confidence you have in the goodness of your cause, to lead you to answer pertly or superciliously to any person; defend the truth with all possible gentleness and fear, lest while you are doing it you should forget his presence whose cause you support, or say any thing unbecoming the dignity and holiness of the religion which you have espoused, or inconsistent with that heavenly temper which the Spirit of your indwelling Lord must infallibly produce.
1 Peter 3:4 20th Century NT “but the inner life with the imperishable beauty of a quiet and gentle spirit; for this is very precious in God’s sight.”

Wednesday – Practicing the Fruit of Meekness
Matthew 5:39 NRSV “But I say to you, Do not resist an evildoer. But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also;”
Matthew 18:21-22 NLT “21 ¶ Then Peter came to him and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?” 22 “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven!”
Galatians 6:1 NLT “Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.”
2 Timothy 2:24-25 NLT “24 A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people. 25 Gently instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people’s hearts, and they will learn the truth.”
2 Timothy 2:24 COMMENTARY BY ALBERT BARNES the servant of Christ should be a man of peace. He should not indulge in the feelings which commonly give rise to contention, and which commonly characterize it. He should not struggle for mere victory, even when endeavouring to maintain truth; but should do this, in all cases, with a kind spirit, and a mild temper; with entire candour; with nothing designed to provoke and irritate an adversary.
Titus 3:2 Global Contemporary English Version “and not say cruel things or argue. They should be gentle and kind to everyone.”
Titus 3:2 COMMENTARY BY ALBERT BARNES We should give no improper colouring. We should exaggerate no circumstance. We should never attempt to express ourselves about his motives, or charge on him bad motives,
Philippines 2:2-3 ESV “2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.3 Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.”

Thursday – The Reward of the Meek
Psalm 22:26 New Century Version “Poor people will eat until they are full; those who look to the Lord will praise him. May your hearts live forever!”
Psalm 25:9 ERV “The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.”
Psalm 25:9 QUOTED IN TREASURY OF DAVID Never will this docility be found in any man, until the heart, which is naturally elated and filled with pride, has been humbled and subdued…When God has first humbled them, then he kindly stretches forth his hand to them, and leads and guides them throughout the whole course of their life. John Calvin.
Psalm 37:11 ERV “But the meek shall inherit the land; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.”
Psalm 37:11 QUOTED IN TREASURY OF DAVID The meek shall inherit the earth. In the meantime, they, and they only, possess the present earth, as they go toward the kingdom of heaven, by being humble, and cheerful, and content with what their good God has allotted them. They have no turbulent, repining, vexatious thoughts that they deserve better; nor are vexed when they see others possessed of more honour, or more riches, than their wise God has allotted for their share. But they possess what they have with a meek and contented quietness; such a quietness as makes their very dreams pleasing, both to God and themselves. Isaak Walton (1593-1683), in "The Complete Angler."
Psalm 147:6 New American Standard Bible “The LORD supports the afflicted; He brings down the wicked to the ground.”
Psalm 147:6 COMMENTARY GENEVA NOTES “For the more high that the wicked climb the greater is their fall in the end.”
Isaiah 29:19 New Century Version “The Lord will make the poor people happy; they will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.”
Matthew 5:5 Holman “Blessed are the gentle, because they will inherit the earth.”
Matthew 5:5 COMMENTARY BY ALBERT BARNES Meekness is the reception of injuries with a belief that God will vindicate us. "Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord," Ro 12:19. It little becomes us to take his place, and to do what he has a right to do, and what he has promised to do. Meekness produces peace. It is proof of true greatness of soul. It comes from a heart too great to be moved by little insults. It looks upon those who offer them with pity. He that is constantly ruffled, that suffers every little insult or injury to throw him off his guard, and to raise a storm of passion within, is at the mercy of every mortal that chooses to disturb him. He is like the troubled sea that cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt.
Ellen White, Thoughts from the Mount of Blessing, p. 15 –Human nature is ever struggling for expression, ready for contest; but he who learns of Christ is emptied of self, of pride, of love of supremacy, and there is silence in the soul. Self is yielded to the disposal of the Holy Spirit. Then we are not anxious to have the highest place. We have no ambition to crowd and elbow ourselves into notice; but we feel that our highest place is at the feet of our Saviour. We look to Jesus, waiting for His hand to lead, listening for His voice to guide. The apostle Paul had this experience, and he said, "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me." Galatians 2:20.”
Meekness is necessary to keep people's egos from coliding with each other in the Christian walk.

I think James this is an excellent questions. You can see this in the politics and theology threads as a prime example of many just butting heads and not listening at all.
