What is the church's view on Madeleine L'Engle's writings? Ted

Well, she was a liberal universalist Christian. I've never read her books, but they apparently have Christian themes.
Another plus is that she didn't believe in eternal punishment!
As far as the church's official view, I have no idea.

Here is an excerpt from an interview: Many people see faith as anti-intellectual. Then they're not very bright. It takes a lot of intellect to have faith, which is why so many people only have religiosity. http://www.newsweek.com/id/105017/Also, she didn't like Harry Potter. We may have a winner! :D

She says that she "takes the Bible far to seriously to take it literally." Karl Barth said something like that too. When we lived near Elon University, I was able to visit with Carole F. Chase, a retired prof there. Carole edited MLE's writings into a devotional. For me, it is Good Stuff. Carole said that she grew up in a 'literal-minded' church and is now a Presbyterian minister. PhD in something...
I'd love to start a discussion of her writings. One that should generate more light than heat.
Ted

C.S. Lewis had a similar view on the Bible. It doesn't really make sense to me (how can something be true without being factual?), but I wouldn't argue with her (especially since she's dead).
Besides, she didn't like Harry Potter! What more can you want?
I'll have to put A Wrinkle in Time on my reading list.
So you have read her books and like them?

I didn't know about HP. HP had some good theology in it. Getting past the witchcraft, there was a distinct separation between good and evil...
I've read a few of her books. The latest is "A Stone For A Pillow." Some really deep philosophy, there.
And of course "A Wrinkle in Time". Camazotz sounds like a good password! :-)

Ah, so you're one of those people. I haven't read HP, mostly because I was scared away by the threat of demons taking over my mind (or whatever is supposed to happen when you read it). Goody. I like deep philosophy. I wish I lived in a library and could get the books right now while I'm thinking about them... *sigh* Did you know that Camazotz was a Mayan bat god? :D

Did you know that Camazotz was a Mayan bat god? No, that's a new one.
Perhaps I should post something to discuss and see where it goes... Ted

I learned it on Wikipedia. :D
Good idea! As long as it's something I can discuss without reading the books... :)

I had read most of her books but that was like 15+ years ago.
